Overview

Summary:

A Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of all equipment, including but not limited to the following machines:Wheel loaders, forklifts, material handlers, and help with plant maintenance when needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Repair and replace damaged or worn parts in a timely manner to support deliveriesDismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and various hand toolsAdjust points, spark plug gaps, valves, distributors, fuel injection and carburetorsClean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehiclesOverhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiencyMaintain and repair gasoline, diesel & natural gas-powered equipment & trucks, including raising equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoistsOperate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose any defectsTest mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper function and performance, and compliance with manufacturers' specificationsFit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipmentKeep detailed records with time spent, materials used, and parts orderedDiagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment & calibration devicesExamine parts for damage or excessive wearConsistently maintain all safety precautions, using all safety gear and protective equipmentUtilize proper safety techniques and equipment when necessaryEmployee Relations:Work effectively with co-workersProactive in alerting management of any unsafe act or condition to prevent injuriesGlobal Responsibilities:Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this positionThis job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needsQualifications:Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:High School Diploma or equivalent requiredValid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), minimum Class B preferredAir brake certification preferredKnowledge of repair on components of heavy trucks and equipment including suspensions, hydraulics, drivelines, electrical systems, brakes, and enginesExperience:Minimum 2 years-experience in heavy truck repair and maintenanceHydraulic experience preferredDiesel engine technician experience requiredSkills/Abilities:Operate industrial power and hand toolsAbility to adapt to changes and proceduresUse effective written and oral communication skillsPerform the job safely by demonstrating full awareness of his/her surroundingsAbility to drive standard and automatic transmission trucksAbility to drive heavy trucks and operate equipment such as forklift sand end loadersWorking Conditions:Operation within a fast-paced environmentNoise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants, and laboratoriesWork indoors and outdoors in all types of weatherWork may occur on construction sites with uneven ground conditionsLocal travel requiredPhysical Requirements:Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and armsOccasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawlSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipmentWork through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composureMust be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipmentMust be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessaryMove/lift up to50 pounds frequentlyMove/lift at least 100 pounds occasionally
