Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Health Record Technician (HRT) II (Supervisor), the HRT I performs health information related functions according to established California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional health Care Services (CCHCS) policies as well as institutional Local Operating Procedures (LOP).  The HRT I processes Release of Information (ROI) document requests, assists in sorting, prepping, and scanning patient documents, and maintains tracking logs of ROI requests.

[ads1] Job Responsibilities:
  • Works with highly sensitive confidential information.
  • Uses knowledge of statutes and regulations, as well as departmental policies, to protect the sensitive and confidential nature of the information contained in the patient telemedicine health care record, such as drugs, substance abuse, mental health information, and HIV information.
  • Collets health care information, prepares reports and performs studies for quality assurance activities to monitor the effectiveness of the health record service.
  • Conducts concurrent and retrospective screening/monitoring of health care records for deficiencies according to state and federal regulations; compilation and preparation of the “Incomplete Health Record List”, which identifies inactive records that need to be archived and/or disposed of properly.
  • Process, reproduce, and file correspondence in inmate patient’s health care record in accordance with state and federal regulations for the inmate patient, third parties and community facilities; process subpoenas and court orders; request of inmate patient’s health record from community hospitals and third parties, assist with quarterly quality assurance audits; and abstract data from health care records as requested by auditing teams.
  • Perform special projects as required by the Office of telemedicine Services, including special projects related to the operation and monitoring of the telemedicine Services Program.
Job Requirements:
  • Ability to understand and conform to specific basic principles and rules of health data abstracting and coding
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to benefit from academic and in-service training and job experience.
Qualification & Experience:
  • One year of California state service clerical experience which includes training and supervised work experience in the procurement and processing of health data.
