General Description: A faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include participating in various college activities, including committees, and providing student advisement. The Professor of Nursing is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum at the course level for students enrolled in nursing courses as well as the development of appropriate objectives, test blueprints, and test items.
This position is a Safety Sensitive position and subject to mandatory pre-employment background and drug testing.
This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant funding. Once the funds from the grant that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.
Reports To: Assistant Dean/Nursing Program Director / Dean of Health Professions
What position(s) reports to this position?: None
Minimum Education/Experience: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing plus evidence of continued progress towards a Master's degree in Nursing.
Must complete a minimum of 6 credit hours per year (3 fall and 3 spring) towards a Master's Degree in Nursing.
Current practice with a minimum of two (2) years full-time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting preceding the first date of first employment as a teacher.
Hold an active, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Positive human relations and communications skills.
Basic computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or similar software.
Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles.
Committed to helping students achieve his/her goals to be successful and attain a college education.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs used in the department and on campus (such a learning management systems).
Organization and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit.
Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when he/she is having difficulty interpreting concepts.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: 1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which one must convey detailed or important spoken information or instructions to others.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discrimination in sound.
Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
Requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as but not limited to: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of of parts at distances close to the eyes.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
Subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Exposure to infectious diseases.
Required to occasionally function around prisoners, mental patients, or agitated, hostile patients.
Preferred Qualifications: Hold a Master's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited institution
AND
(3) years' full-time teaching experience in Higher Ed.
Required Training: Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position. Teaching schedules can include online, days, nights and/or weekends. Required institutional activities (other than attendance at pinning and commencement) usually occur in the classic eight-to-five Monday through Friday work week.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement): A faculty member is primarily responsible for supporting student learning by providing quality instruction in courses that the faculty member and the dean agree will be taught. Quality instruction includes clear course objectives, prepared, and relevant class activities, effective and understandable presentations of learning materials, fair and understandable grading practices, timely responses to students, and a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
In addition to the primary responsibility for supporting student learning, a faculty member is expected to:Maintain posted office hours with a minimum of ten (10) hours per week.
Serve as an academic advisor.
Serve as an appropriate mentor and role model for students.
Manage program and course curricula by helping select textbooks, evaluating learning materials, and writing course syllabi.
