Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital (JBHH) is a three-story, 180,000-square-foot facility committed to the highest quality, treatment, and service. Opened in 1999, JBHH consolidates evaluation, clinical treatment, teaching and research, to offer a full continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults and elderly, including crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization, and outpatient programs. In association with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of MedicineÂs Department of Psychiatry, JBHH offers specialized treatment for numerous conditions including depression and mood disorders, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation or behavior, anxiety and panic disorders, drug and alcohol abuse and Alzheimer's disease. JBHH also specializes in criminal justice mental health services.
Summary
The Psychology Intern will perform supervised individual and group counseling, supervision, crisis intervention, and consultation/outreach. Provides psychological assessments, intakes and appropriate referrals. Work is supervised by professional staff, and individual clinical work is supervised by a licensed psychologist.
Responsibilities
- Conducts intake interviews with patients who request counseling services and completes the required clinical documentation via our electronic recordkeeping system within the same day.Â
- Provides individual and group counseling to patients on a scheduled basis or through crisis intervention.Â
- Provides clinical supervision to a practicum student and maintains supervision notes.Â
- Provides outreach workshops and lectures to campus community.Â
- Maintains up-to-date clinical documentation.Â
- Consults with supervisors and staff as needed.Â
- Acts as a liaison between client and community resources as needed.Â
- Provides consultation to staff, faculty, and parents seeking assistance with troubled patients or those with serious mental health issues.Â
- Attends training seminars, staff meetings and supervision on a weekly basis and in a prompt manner.Â
- Interacts with staff and patients in a professional and ethical manner.Â
- Commits to a full-time, 40 hour per week internship.Â
- Participates in supervision and training with an openness to learning and receiving feedback.Â
- Utilizes psych diagnostic assessment procedures and psychometric methods to facilitate psychotherapy as needed.Â
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).Â
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High school diploma is required.
Credentials
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
