Our main campus provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health care, women's health services, prosthetics, eye care (ophthalmology), treatment for spinal cord injury, foot care, programs to help you stop smoking and using tobacco, and more. We are currently seeking a full-time board-certified/eligible Cardiologist to serve as Section Chief of Cardiology.

The Section Chief of Cardiology is expected to ensure comprehensive cardiology care in the inpatient setting and consulting services in the inpatient and outpatient areas including Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's). The physician will manage patients with ongoing cardiology conditions, inpatient and outpatient, in collaboration with other services of the KCVA. The incumbent directly reports to the Medical Sub-Specialty Care (MSSC) Chief assuring the most effective delivery of cardiology care within the Medicine Service.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Supervision of the cardiology providers including advanced practice providers (APP).
Provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the section to maintain clinical and educational excellence, as monitored by various VHA metrics.
Ensures cardiology providers are compliant with regulations, medical staff by-laws, facility policies, Joint Commission standards, performance metrics, TMS training, and appropriate regulations including the provider professional evaluation process.
Promotes a practice environment that empowers staff to provide compassionate and efficient care.
Demonstrates a commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles and applies EEO principles in all decisions, such as hiring practices.
Provides input in strategic planning, budget, mission, operational planning, and policy development.
Maintains the cardiology clinical grids and section schedules for cardiology providers including the on-call schedule for the section.
Timely completion of annual proficiencies for all providers within the section.
Teaching/supervision of cardiology fellows, medicine house staff, and medical students.
Rotating coverage of the inpatient cardiology service including sharing after-hour and weekend call/coverage.
Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient areas. Collaborates with APP's and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
Procedural skills must include EKG/holter/event monitor review and interpretation, transthoracic echocardiography interpretation, transesophageal echocardiography performance and interpretation, insertion of temporary pacemakers and Swan-Ganz catheters, direct current cardioversions, cardiac dysrhythmia diagnosis and management, nuclear cardiology and stress testing (chemical and exercise).
