Summary

  • Physical Therapy Assistant performs technical work with limited supervisory duties administering assigned physical therapy treatments in the rehabilitation department of a county hospital. 
  • Physical Therapy Assistants perform assigned therapeutic activities pre-determined by Registered Physical Therapists in one or more areas such as exercise, modality or ward. 
  • An additional responsibility is the supervision of Physical Therapy Aides in the movement of patients and the maintenance of treatment areas and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Specializes in all facets of physical therapy treatment for patients of all ages. 
  • Possesses and maintains an understanding of the principles of growth and development. 
  • Conducts a progressive physical therapy treatment program following the assessment of the patient's status and a treatment plan established by the supervising physical therapist. 
  • Reviews each patient's status and treatment program with the supervising physical therapist on a frequent, consistent basis. 
  • Documents patient treatment in the medical record according to the established policy. 
  • Completes and submits daily charge vouchers for assigned patients. 
  • Maintains accurate productivity records and produces appropriate amount of treatment units. 
  • Orders equipment needed by the patient in consultation with the supervising physical therapist. Assists the physical therapist in the clinical education of physical therapy assistant students. 
  • Participates in patient related therapeutic recreation programs in order to transfer patient skills acquired in therapy to functional use. 
  • Administers physical therapy treatment using, but not limited to the following procedures: Manually and mechanically applied passive, active, isokinetic and conditioning exercises; Electrical stimulation; Patient education; Ultrasound etc. 
  • Participates in learning experiences to maintain and improve clinical knowledge and skills. 
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned. 
  • Performs additional advanced job duties, as outlined in the Rehab Clinical Ladder, which must be pre-approved and determined by the Rehab Committee. 

Experience

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High school Diploma is Required. 

Bachelor's Degree or completion of required internship is Strongly Preferred.

Credentials

Valid Florida license as a Physical Therapy Assistant is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
