Job Summary

A psychiatrist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental, addictive and emotional disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, sexual disorders, gender dysphoria and adjustment disorders. The psychiatrist is able to understand the biological, psychological and social components of illness and, therefore, is uniquely prepared to treat the whole person. The main form of treatment used by a psychiatrist is psychopharmacology. A psychiatrist is qualified to order diagnostic laboratory tests and to prescribe medications, evaluate and treat psychological and interpersonal problems and to intervene with families who are coping with stress, crises and other problems in living.

Job Duties

CommunityCare is an FQHC look-alike whose mission is to improve the health status of our community by providing comprehensive, high quality health care regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. This position will help lead and develop a behavioral health care team within CommunityCare. This person will work in conjunction with and be supported by a large local health system. He/she will work with CommunityCare leadership to develop programs to improve the delivery of behavioral health services to the community. ​

Interviews patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories.Performsand/orinterpretsdiagnostic testsas needed.Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness.May prescribeor administermedications.Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that includepatients'histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
