What to Expect

The Power Electronics team is seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to support the development and testing of Tesla's cutting-edge high voltage systems for Semi . As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with Engineers to design, test, and validate various components responsible for power distribution within the Semi truck system. Your expertise will help drive innovation, identify areas for improvement, and ensure the reliability and performance of our products.

In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise to support the design and development of test plans, procedures, and protocols for the Semi program. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you'll iterate on product and test designs, analyze data, and draw actionable insights. Your critical thinking, attention to detail, and analytical skills will be crucial in identifying and resolving complex technical challenges.

The Power Electronics team is committed to accelerating innovation and rapidly iterating designs. As an Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and meticulousness of our testing processes, combining engineering fundamentals with a scientific approach to experimental design, data collection, and analysis.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform visual and functional inspections of high voltage system components, to identify defects, irregularities, and areas of change over time
  • Collaborate with Test Engineers to develop, execute, and document test plans, procedures, and protocols for validating high voltage system performance and reliability
  • Provide clear, concise documentation of test results, inspection findings, and technical issues to support data-driven decision-making
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and analysis of electromechanical test systems to identify root causes of issues and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure all testing activities adhere to safety protocols and industry standards, especially in high voltage environments
  • Assist in the assembly, testing, and analysis of engineering prototypes to validate design assumptions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate test equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability in all testing processes
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in testing operations and implement changes to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, reliability, and test engineers, to address technical challenges and contribute to product design enhancements
What You’ll Bring
  • Extensive practical experience in a similar role, with a strong background in engineering principles and practices
  • Proven experience or familiarity with high voltage systems, including testing, validation, and adherence to associated safety protocols
  • Proficient in mechanical fabrication, expert-level skills with hand and power tools, experience in machine shop operations is a plus
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble electromechanical systems independently, demonstrating strong mechanical aptitude
  • Familiarity with standard electronics lab tools, including AC/DC meters, data acquisition systems, and wiring harnesses
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical and mechanical systems
  • Excellent written communication skills, with experience in documenting test results and technical issues
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team, with strong self-direction and initiative
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, with frequent standing, walking, and bending in a fast-paced lab environment
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with electrical design tools (e.g., Altium) is a plus, along with experience in Python or similar programming languages for data analysis
