Urology Full-Time position in Columbia, South Carolina

Aptive Resources is seeking a dedicated and skilled Urologist to join our team at the VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. The Urologist will be responsible for providing comprehensive urology care to veterans, ensuring high-quality and safe patient care both in and outside the operating room. The physician(s)’ care shall cover the range of urology surgery services. You will provide onsite care to include clinical coverage, consultation, evaluation, assessment, treatment, minor or major surgical procedures. On call coverage and call backs are also a requirement not included in the 40 hours weekly description.
**Primary Responsibilities**
Clinic and Call Schedule: Columbia, VA Health Care System administrative hours are Monday through Friday, 0800- 1630 for clinical patient needs as well, the on call and call back hours are rotated. Call hours are routinely 1630pm- 0700am.
Scheduled Operating Days - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, from 0700- 1600.
Scheduled Clinic Days - Monday through Friday 0800-1630.
Clinic and Surgery Volume - Approximate case load is as follows: # of patients per clinic: 18-20 # of procedures per surgical session: 3-5
Admissions/In Patient Care- An attending must see all admissions within 4 hours, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. The attending must personally document findings, initial diagnosis, and treatment plan, as well as any modifications or additions within 24 hours or the day after admission.
Physician will be required to attended quality improvement meetings, staff meetings, and M&M Meetings.
- Perform Urology Surgical Operations: Conduct urology surgical operations, outpatient ambulatory surgical procedures, and consultations for both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Continuum of Care: Follow each patient through the full continuum of care including admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals, and coordinating diagnostic tests and procedures prior to surgery.
- Patient and Family Education: Educate and counsel patients and their family members about the surgical process, including potential risks and benefits.
- Clinical Management: Manage the clinical aspects of General Surgery, including the assessment and preparation of patients for surgery.
- Initial Evaluation and Workup: Conduct initial evaluations and overall workups of general surgery patients.
- Post-Operative Care: Provide appropriate post-operative care and follow-up to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities to maintain high standards of care.
**Minimum Qualifications**
Education: Must hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO) or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Active BLS/ACLS certification
- Licensure: Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Urology Surgeons
