            Facilities Maintenance is responsible for preforming all duties essential to the daily care, upkeep, and growth of the New Horizons facilities. All New Horizons’ Staff are expected to study, practice and operate within the New Horizons’ Philosophy of Keeping Kids First.

            Keeping Kids First requires that every decision and action be motivated by and geared toward meeting the highest need of the individual kid. New Horizons will not tolerate anyone who is not committed to keeping kids safe from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

            At New Horizons, we Keep Kids First while providing a safe, therapeutic and loving environment for children and adolescents who have experienced immense trauma through abuse, neglect or exploitation. Our Staff keep our children safe and provide a home-like environment for them to grow, heal and thrive. The Audrey Grace House in Abilene, Texas provides individual, intensive inpatient treatment programs for boys and girls suffering from emotional, behavioral and attachment or relationship problems. The Audrey Grace House is home to 40 children, ages 6-17.

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to empowering others, finding solutions to problems, and keeping kids safe

  • Establishes respectful relationships;

  • Works well independently and collaboratively with other personnel and professionals;

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal;

  • Maintains an organized filing system while adhering to the Texas DFPS Minimum Standards and New Horizons’ Policies;

  • Sets appropriate limits both in relationships and in personal work ethic;

  • Embraces and embodies the Philosophy of New Horizons;

  • Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills; and

  • Demonstrates excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills.

  • Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Keeping Kids Safe

  • Following the New Horizons’ Employee Handbook;

  • Work collaboratively with other personnel and/or service providers and professionals;

  • Be able to coordinate a schedule and prioritize a job list;

  • Must be able to work within a set budget while performing quality workmanship;

  • Attend staff meetings and seminars as needed to obtain the required number of hours for continuing education annually;

  • To perform general duty maintenance to the ground, buildings, and other properties of New Horizons;

  • To recognize and initiate corrective action on any structure, grounds, or other properties that is needed and to follow all processes set forth;

  • Maintain a safe work environment for staff and students;

  • Responsible for ensuring the proper procedures, regulations and safety standards are met in regards to the sewage and water treatment plants;

  • Responsible for ensuring that a comprehensive preventative maintenance program is in effect and adhered to in regards to all buildings, structures, roads, fences, equipment, and implements;

  • Responsible for keeping a current and accurate inventory of all Ranch and Audrey Grace House equipment, their condition and approximate value;

  • Be able to send and receive emails including updating leadership of project completion; and

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the New Horizons’ Leadership.

    Qualifications for Administrative Assistants include:

  • Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;

  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED);

  • Must have a working knowledge and ability to execute general maintenance and scheduling of projects;

  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and comprehend contracts;

  • Must have knowledge of general maintenance skills and willingness to gain new skills in applicable areas;

  • Must have the ability to work with children;

  • Must be able to perform CPR/First Aid when needed;

  • Must be able to work in a mixed indoor and outdoor environment involving interaction with students and staff;

  • Must be able and willing to work with power equipment;

  • Must be a licensed and insured driver;

  • Must be able to work flexible hours under the supervision of the Residential Treatment Centers Administrators with a moderate level of discretion and judgment; and

  • Must be capable of physically restraining a child or adolescent at times when they are a danger to their self or others, or have extensive prior experience which demonstrates their cognitive ability to control the child through alternate acceptable means.
