Duties

Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years). Duties: Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage a panel of patients.
  • Provide comprehensive patient-centered primary medical care.
  • Identify acute/non-acute, chronic health problems.
  • Use principles of risk management to identify system issues which impact patient care.
  • Order and evaluate appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Adhere to clinical practice guidelines for patient chronic diseases.
  • Conduct appropriate preventative screens and diagnostic tests.
  • Provide appropriate disposition of identified health care problems.
  • Participate in Primary Care multidisciplinary activities.
  • Inform Veterans to accomplish shared-decision making in medical treatment/regime.
  • Demonstrate medical expertise in diagnosing and treating multi-symptomatic patients.
  • Adhere to local policies, procedures and directives related to timeliness of documentation and encounters for verification of patient visits, findings and medical recommendations in the electronic medical record.
  • Use computerized Patient Record System to review and update patient's electronic medical records.
  • Maintain view alerts.
  • BLS required
The employee shall participate in activities of the VAMC that are designed to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (The Joint Commission) and other regulatory agencies as they apply to the position.VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. May include extended hours or an occasional Saturday based on patient needs. Due to the nature of work, the Physician may occasionally be required to stay later than 4:30 pm as required.
