The Payroll Project Analyst is responsible for defining requirements, testing and validating results for various Payroll projects. This includes integration of large acquisitions, implementation of new systems, projects and enhancements that update the function of GSS, Oracle Cloud and other applicable systems.

This position will have a dotted line reporting back to the specialized group within Payroll to ensure all aspects of a project are covered.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as a functional SME for Payroll Processing and/or Payroll Tax
  • Support the Payroll Project manager in overseeing and coordinating multiple projects and ongoing enhancement priority management
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees as well as external customers and vendors
  • Partner with Human Capital Technology and Payroll Systems teams on trouble shooting and resolution of system issues
  • Collaborate with Benefits, Compensation and HR communities in the support of HR business initiatives
  • Participate in defining requirements for various projects, enhancements, and defects
  • Support acquisition initiatives related to payroll and employee integration
  • Assist with testing for fixes, enhancements, upgrades to PeopleSoft, Oracle and other integrating platforms by building, executing and validating test scenarios
  • Ensure compliance with company policy and various Federal, State and local jurisdiction legal requirements
  • Develop and run reports in GSS to perform research, validate data and prevent errors
  • Create, update, and maintain process documentation, including process flows
  • Coach, mentor, and train other Payroll Ops Analysts within Payroll Ops team
  • Ability to work various hours as needed to support payroll projects
  • Other projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years functional experience in HR systems, Payroll Processing and/or Payroll Tax roles
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Advanced understanding of how to build efficient payroll processes
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks with hard deadlines simultaneously
  • Proven project documentation discipline
  • Proven advanced analytical, problem solving, and payroll related technical skills
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud
  • Experience with Visio
  • Experience with acquisition mapping, fit/gap analysis, set up and testing
  • Knowledge of internal systematic controls related to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
