The VP, Financial Strategy and Analysis is part of Venerable's Controllership team, which leads financial strategy communications for the organization. Oversees activities such as presentations for business reviews and strategic plans, analysis of business data, financial and strategic analysis of business projects, acquisitions, and transactions. The ideal candidate has a strong insurance and actuarial background with exposure to variable annuities and hedging metrics.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development and presentation of financial results and business strategy of organization to Board of Directors, investors, internal management (actuarial/non-actuarial support), regulators, and employees utilizing all appropriate media.
  • Advises senior management on financial affairs and strategy to maximize the use of resources for the organization.
  • Contributes to cross-functional project teams to review strategic project investment to help drive profitable strategies.
  • Develops and executes department strategy to achieve key business objectives.
  • Role model for team. Strong advocate for people. Seeks to build team through effective goal setting, development planning, coaching, and feedback delivery.
  • Challenges business to achieve highest performance. Drives analysis focused on key measures and metrics and seek to identify improvement opportunities, including leading competitor analysis.
  • Coordinate with key business partners throughout the organization to ensure cohesive messaging when explaining variances versus to prior forecast(s).
  • Leads team and/or completes extremely complex financial analysis / problem solving to address business concerns.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities throughout the company, creates the case for the change, and leads organizational, workflow and/or systems improvement initiatives and activities.
  • Assist teams that fulfills requests from internal audit, external audit, state insurance departments and/or other regulatory authorities.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related business discipline.
  • FSA or Career ASA strongly preferred
  • >10 years of experience with in-depth knowledge of accounting, analysis, and/or reporting preferably within the insurance industry.
  • Strong preference for Insurance industry experience, inclusive of understanding variable annuities and/or hedging functions.
  • Managerial experience required. Able to lead, coach and advise team members.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards, especially Statutory and US GAAP, is desirable.
  • Solid PC skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Workday or other ERM experience is a plus.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, a self-starter, self-motivated, self-disciplined and performance driven.
  • Drives execution and decisions. Adept at seeking guidance from or escalating to other team members throughout the organization and/or management.
  • Manages time well and can effectively balance multiple tasks.
  • Possesses extremely strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Displays measured and professional communication skills across a variety of situations and audiences; expected to display both verbal and written agility and present complicated or delicate issues effectively.
  • Influences, collaborates, and negotiates with others throughout the organization including senior leadership to achieve optimal outcomes.
