Duties include moving bikes to display out every morning, checking emails, calls and voice mails. Inputing new reservations and calling customers to collect payment. Getting customers on bikes that fit their needs, determining which type is right for them, answering questions, safety tips, how to secure the bikes and how to properly return them. Looking over bikes when they are returned and checking in with mechanics when somethings out of your skill set. Professional level of communication and respect to all employees and customers is a must. If you have bike shop experience that's awesome but not absolutely necessary. Having a genuine appreciation for bicycles and bike culture goes a long way here. Pay starts just above minimum wage unless you are a skilled mechanic or have years of customer service experience in which case we can discuss your rate during an interview.
I've been told by some this is the easiest job they've ever had and seen others fold in half when we get slammed so being able to handle the ebb and flow of demand is crucial. Sweeping and cleaning and taking out trash during slow times and prepping bikes, bags, locks, helmets, printing more release forms etc is a great way to stay ready for when we get busy.
