Wages & Benefits

$23.00 - $24.00 per hour; 8 paid holidays; stipend for cell phone use; generous paid time off policy; affordable health, dental and vision insurance; employer paid term life and disability coverage; health savings account; competitive retirement plan with matching contribution, immediate eligibility, and vesting; paid parental leave.

Schedule

This position is located in an office building with a number of duties and responsibilities related to in-person customer service. This position works during normal business hours and may include evening and/or weekend hours and travel to and from community settings.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as COPAL's Adult Employment and Career Counselor provides an opportunity to join the effort towards building a Minnesota Latinx economic power through worker's rights, leadership, career exploration, and job placement. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Facilitating weekly in-person and virtual intake events.
  • Entering data into airtable and workforce one databases.
  • Creating physical files for members seeking to join the worker's center.
  • Ensuring records meet minimum programmatic expectations.
  • Conducting member skill assessments and referring them for internal support services.
  • Engaging people and COPAL members visiting the office.
  • Becoming proficient in contract requirements and supporting the achievement of programmatic outcomes.
  • Supporting job search and job placement activities.
  • Providing interpretation support as needed.
  • Supporting the building of a directory of 15+ businesses per year.
  • Helping program users identify employment options that match their job interests.
  • Providing training on resume writing, cover letters, interviewing techniques, and finding job referrals.
  • Participating in and organizing job fairs.
  • Actively recruiting members for the program.
  • Scheduling and following up on interviews with prospective employers.
  • Advocating for renewal energy through engaging with government and educational institutions.
  • Co-collaborating to maintain a database of potential employers in various industries.
  • Working with other staff to plan and execute cross-organizational events, grassroots fundraising, and other campaign actions.
  • Supporting monthly orientations so members become acquainted with COPAL's mission and vision.

Who You Are

  • Spanish and English language fluency is required.
  • You have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • You have previous experience assessing and determining community needs.
  • You demonstrate knowledge in labor market trends, best practices, and employer needs.
  • You have previous experience with grant and contract compliance.
  • You are accountable with a proven track record of delivery and completion of tasks on time.
  • You are open to learn and master the official COPAL Database within the first quarter of employment.
  • You have previous experience initiating conversations with community members about their stories, hopes, fears, and challenges, and a willingness to be bold in conversations with strangers and volunteers.
  • You have previous experience facilitating meetings, training, and/or group gatherings that move people to action.
  • You have the ability to pay attention to detail, be vigilant about tracking goal progress, and meet deadlines.
  • You are computer literate and have experience with MS Office Suite.
  • You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are a relational leader and good team player with the ability to work with a broad team of staff and grassroots leaders, work well with others in a coalition setting, and motivate diverse groups of people.
  • You have the ability to show up for co-workers with consistent follow-through and clear communication.
  • You demonstrate a strong work ethic and are highly skilled in time management.
  • You demonstrate a commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice as well as progressive political change.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
