ATS is seeking to fill a full-time In-Facility Family Counselor position (Temporary).
In-Facility Family Counselor to provide services at outside work site, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Correctional Facility.
Under the direct supervision of the In-facility Correctional Services Supervisor, the full-time In-Facility Family Counselor provides assessment and treatment planning services, progress notes, discharge documentation, individual and group family counseling services for Hawaii State sentenced offenders participating in The Bridge program of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The Hawaii State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) services must be in accordance with the recommendation of the CPC (Correctional Program Checklist) Coordinating Committee to insure our services are utilizing evidence-based practices of cognitive-behavioral and social learning models.
Assists supervisor with maintaining effective liaison with various representatives of DCR.
Complies with rules, regulations, and program requirements as defined by contracts with DCR.
The counselor must adhere to the expectation and guidelines that are noted in the volunteer and contract handbook (including the Federal mandated PREA guidelines, Prison Rape Elimination Act) training offered by DCR for all new contract staff and volunteers.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Master's degree in Counseling - Marriage and Family Therapy required.
Master's degree in behavior health field or Hawaii State Substance Abuse Counselor Certification (CSAC), preferred; and at least two years of experience in the substance abuse field, required.
Two years experience working directly with incarcerated and/or sentenced offenders is preferred.
Must have at least six months direct involvement in individual and group treatment.
Demonstrated abilities and skills regarding verbal and written communications, maturity, insight and sound judgment.
Knowledge and experience in working with offenders is required.
Must be eligible for counselor State certification within two years of hire.

Completes Volincor and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) training per contract standards.
Conducts weekly in-facility two-hour family group education and counseling classes for Bridge participants referred to project services and significant others of Bridge participants.
Conducts education classes for Bridge participants which includes family roles, issues, family patterns and dynamics with the goal of assisting clients with the community transition and family reintegration process, lowering recidivism and adding to a successful parole.
Completes assessments and treatment plans for Bridge participants referred (and their family members) for program participation.
Prepares and plans for weekly family group sessions, individual sessions, assessments, treatment planning, and schedules individual family counseling sessions with facility staff.
Assists family members to access and make linkages with Alanon and other support groups, including but not limited to Salvation Army churches and/or other faith-based services, social service programs and other community agencies.
Develops, administers and scores the Texas Christian University Institute pre/post Criminal Thinking surveys per directions of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Substance Abuse Program Manager and client satisfaction surveys for Bridge participants in family education/counseling.
Completes a discharge summary on each client for the case managers and supervisor with the Family/Bridge programs, which may include recommendations for further treatment.
Meets at least bi-monthly with the Correctional Services Clinical Supervisor, Bridge staff to ensure coordinated services for each program participants and to review programming, to include any problem areas.
Adheres to Family Therapy and Counseling contract for Bridge Program guidelines for the family education/counseling group curriculum presentations, resources, and written materials used for the weekly family classes to ensure the DCR approved evidence-based approaches are being utilized per the contract guidelines.
Provides intake for family history documentation and individual assessments for clients, utilizing the Texas Christian University Institute of Behavioral Research intake (TCU form) to conclude a Criminal Thinking Survey assessment scoring.
The provider shall accept into the program sentenced adult male and female offenders who have completed the Reception, Assessment and Diagnostic (RAD) process at HCF, WCF or WCCC.
Develops treatment plans built on the inmates LSI-R/ASUS assessment Criminal Thinking Survey scores for all clients accepted into the bridge/family program treatment.
(Continuing Care groups excluded).
Provides intake for cognitive and behavioral documentation and individual assessments for clients utilizing the in-facility comprehensive intake form to conclude the physical, medical, psychiatric, legal, family and relationship, and health status.
The provider shall accept into the program sentenced adult male and female offenders who have completed the Reception, Assessment and Diagnostic (RAD) process at HCF, WCF or WCCC.
Develops treatment plans developed on the inmates LSI-R scores for all inmates accepted in the Cognitive Behavioral by representatives of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) (Continuing Care groups excluded).
Provides structured group education and counseling sessions utilizing Change Company materials according to the DCR recommended curriculum as noted in our contracts.
As needed, provides individual counseling for sentenced offenders participating in DCR Family/Bridge programming and/or Community Continuing Care programming.
As needed, provides continuing care group services following completion of primary care groups according to the treatment/transition plans of sentenced offenders participating in ATS and/or OPS and/or IOP programming.
Continuing Care services may take place between the hours of 5:
00 to 8:
00 PM.
Salvation Army ATS maintains the highest standards of professional ethics.
The Family Therapist/Counselor will be expected to sustain the integrity and professional fiduciary responsibilities that were entrusted to our agency by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
In all encounters and contact with co-workers, inmates and or DCR's officials, the counselor will be expected to maintain the ethical standards as noted in the agencies Policy and Procedures #10 under Organization, Ethical Standards of Business and Professional Conduct.
SA ATS endorses and adheres to NAADAC code of ethics as professional and personal standards.
Thus, all staff are expected to interact with others with professionalism, courtesy and respect.
