The Operations Manager Jurupa Valley is responsible for leading the plant operations and transformation processes, as well as to ensuring the safe, cost effective, efficient, and environmentally responsible manufacturing of products in accordance with business plans and company objectives. The role will be accountable for all aspects of performance as well as all personnel working on site. Moreover, the incumbent will be managing and developing the assigned staff and responding to requirements and opportunities in respect of diversity, equity and inclusion guidelines. By managing the plant’s staff, the incumbent plays a vital role in propelling the continuous improvement  and strategic development of the Jurupa Valley site.

 

This site has recently been acquired by LYB with the goal to use the facilities and the main part of the existing equipment for mechanical recycling. The future incumbent will play an important role in the upcoming trial period in which the scope of the equipment modifications (Capex project) will need to be determined, also in setting up the structures, organization and processes and start of production. This role is  responsible for all Operational project development and commissioning/startup activities, such that startup is safe, flawless, timely and in compliance with all Operational Excellence requirements.

A Day In The Life:

HSE: 

  • Be actively engaged in Safety and GoalZero culture as part of plant support and project development / execution. Lead by example and ensure discipline and compliance. 
  • Ensure appropriate processes and systems are in place and lead the effort to maintain compliance with LyondellBasell Operational Excellence standards and applicable regulatory agency requirements.  
  • Define and coordinate annual HSE/OE objectives for the site, with clear focus on continuous improvement in the areas of health, industrial hygiene, occupational and process safety, security, environment and emergency response. 
  • Act as signature authority for all compliance documentation.
  • Ensure ethical behavior and regulatory compliance by all site personnel.  
  • Ensure security of the site’s personnel and assets on Company property.

 

Site Leadership: 

  • Lead in a manner consistent with the LyondellBasell Leadership Principles through the application of the LyondellBasell Core Competencies. Actively engage with the site workforce in the field / shop floor. Set expectations concerning continual improvement in GoalZERO performance and lead the organization in achievement of safety goals and objectives.  
  • Lead the change agenda by guiding the organization through the line organization and embracing a continuous improvement strategy.
  • Develop and encourage supervisors and employees to think and act in alignment with clearly established and communicated expectations. Define clear roles and responsibilities for the site staff, provide authority to meet these roles and responsibilities and hold the organization accountable. Identify the business and organizational needs of the site, ensure site organization is efficient and effective, and develop employees to meet these needs.  Value and champion diversity, equity and inclusion  
  • Ensure manufacturing systems are in place, functioning seamlessly and monitored through appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Understand, communicate and act on site financial plans and results.


Manufacturing Leadership: 

  • As an active member of the Circular & Low Carbon Solutions business, participate in the development and execution of manufacturing direction/strategy. Work with other  Managers to define and advance strategies to ensure manufacturing effectiveness through world class people, processes and assets.
  • Define and advance strategies to ensure Operational Excellence through world class people, processes and assets.
  • Contribute actively to Company Sustainability, Circular and Low Carbon initiatives

 

Planning and Resource Management: 

  • Define and communicate clear vision, mission, and goals for the site, ensure alignment with the Company’s vision and business drivers. 
  • Ensure goal alignment throughout the site organization and lead the organization to achievement of goals. Develop plans to execute corporate initiatives. 
  • Champion capital projects consistent with business strategy, regulatory compliance and Company programs. Perform within budgets and production plans. 
  • Actively manage site headcount to achieve highest value earned at the site and to ensure team effectiveness
  • Ensure professional development of site employees and organization.

   

 

 

You Bring This Value:

Qualification Requirements:

  • University degree in chemical/mechanical  or process engineering or a comparable discipline.
  • At least 10 years of experience within the chemical or petrochemical industry or recycling industry. 
  • Manufacturing experience in different departments (OPS, maintenance, engineering) would be an asset.
  • Several years of experience in managing cross-functional  teams.
  • Start-up experiences appreciated.
  • At least 5 years of experience as part of a management team. 
  • Strong analytical and process design skills.

  • Proven track record in managing a department or a large project.
  • Ability to perform autonomously as well as in a team.
