POSITION SUMMARY
Pfizer is seeking a talented, self-motivated Scientist (Bioinformatics) with background in developing analytical algorithm, data processing pipeline to support mRNA vaccine data analytics and next generation sequencing efforts in vaccines R&D team at Pearl River. Responsibilities will be driving therapeutic innovation through contributing to the vaccine development. You will apply analytical skills and develop bioinformatics tools used for whole genome sequencing, targeted sequencing, RNA sequencing and single cell sequencing. You will analyze sequence data and provide bioinformatics and data science support to various mRNA vaccines program. Work and documentation are to be done in a compliant manner according to relevant SOP guidelines and cGLP guidelines where appropriate. You will be part of a dynamic team and should possess a strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and manage automated next generation sequencing (NGS) pipelines to support pathogen or host genome sequencing projects
Implement various open source bioinformatic pipelines and interpret analytical results to support mRNA vaccines' preclinical and clinical programs
Experience and knowledge about bulk RNAseq, single cell RNAseq, TCR profiling, and BCR profiling
Develop novel algorithms and workflow for the analysis of vast amount data spanning different data types and provides scientific insights to guide vaccine design.
Present analytical results and review of literature at group meetings as needed. Maintain laboratory notebooks in compliance with the Pfizer Laboratory Notebook Policy.
Collaborate extensively with those from other scientific disciplines from within the group, from other subdivisions of Vaccines R&D, from other divisions of Pfizer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in computer science, bioinformatics, data science, computational biology or related field is required.
Bachelor's degree with 8~10 years of experience or master's degree with additional 6-8 years of related experience is preferred. This is NOT a PhD position.
Extensive experience in analyzing multi-omics next generation sequencing data (e.g., genetics, bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial omics, proteomics, etc.) for biomedical research.
Proficient coding/scripting in Python, R. Familiar with Biopython, Tidyverse, Bioconductor, scikit-learn
Familiar with Linux environments, high-performance computing and/or cloud computing environment and broad experience with open-source bioinformatics tools to generate scientific insight.
Must be comfortable with fast-paced environment handling multiple projects simultaneously with different priorities and timelines. Strong motivation, passion and commitment to interdisciplinary science and techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Familiar with various sequencing platforms: Ion Torrent, Illumina, PacBio, Nanopore, 10x genomic
Familiar with public resources: GISAID, NCBI, EMBL, UniProt, PDB
Knowledge about vaccine development and immunology
Job Location: On premise with relocation support available
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,900.00 to $124,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
