Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Electrical Superintendent:

  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and ensure specifications are met.
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements and plan procedures.
  • Estimate and order materials and evaluate worker requirements to complete jobs.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of workers.
  • Confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors to resolve problems and coordinate activities.
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports.
  • Assign work to employees based on material and worker requirements for specific jobs.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose and inspect systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Advise management on whether the continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Maintain a current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
  • Plan the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and ensure compliance with building and safety codes.
  • Work scheduled hours, including overtime and weekends, and respond to management requests.
  • Arrive on time and leave at the end of the shift.
  • Follow safety rules and notify supervision or others when a safety hazard is observed.

Required Knowledge:

  • Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in electrical work.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications to solve problems.
  • Customer and Personal Service: Principles and processes for providing excellent customer service.
  • Evaluating Compliance: Using relevant information and judgment to determine if processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution.
  • Communication: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in writing, email, or in person.
  • Organizing and Planning: Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize and accomplish work tasks.
