The Nurse Consultant - an independent contractor - works at the direction of the Health Coordinator and agrees to provide approximately four to ten hours of service to Illinois Action for Children’s Early Learning Programs per month, on a timely basis, in compliance with all federal, state and local requirements. The consultant will invoice Illinois Action for Children for these services.

The consultant will be expected to promote and adhere to the organization’s core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement, communication, competent people and clear priorities. All work is to be completed with minimum supervision and in accordance with organization standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The organization reserves the right to add to, delete, change or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.

Services include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Invoices agency for hours worked in a timely manner.
  • Supports program’s family engagement staff in engaging parents in identifying and accessing health services and resources that are responsive to their interests and goals.
  • Consults with parents in regards to health concerns (where required).
  • Participates in center health related events.
  • Ensures program compliance with DCFS licensing health requirements for infants and toddlers.
  • Reviews and assesses child immunization records and health forms.
  • Executes our workplace core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement (CQI), communication, competent people, and clear priorities.
  • Independently works on multiple tasks effectively in support of department.
  • Other functions: The organization may assign other functions to the job at its discretion.

Directly Operated Site Responsibilities:

  • Conducts monthly site visits to Early Head Start (EHS) classrooms to collect data on infants and toddlers including height, weight, length, blood pressure, and BMI.
  • Observes Early Head Start classroom practices carried out by personnel (example: diapering, feeding, sanitizing, and supervision) and provides guidance, when needed.
  • Documents visits at all EHS sites for data collection in accordance with Early Head Start guidelines for health related child outcomes.

Early Head Start Home Base Responsibilities:

  • Completes the Early Head Start postpartum home visit with parent(s) within two weeks of delivery.
  • Obtains the newborn baby’s height, weight, length, and head circumference during two week postpartum visit.
  • Provides health information to parent(s) during postpartum visits (i.e. postpartum care, parent mental health, sleep safety, nutrition, lead exposure, consequences of tobacco products, etc.).

Training Responsibilities:

  • Provides training to parents on prevalent health topics at monthly site Parent Meetings, where required (i.e. medical and oral health care, emergency first aid, environmental hazards, and health and safety practices for the home, etc.).
  • Provides staff training on prevalent health topics including infant care.
  • Provides trainings at Illinois Action for Children partner centers, when needed.
  • May be asked to provide training in 24-48 hour time period

 

Hourly Rate: $150 - No Benefits

This position will be located in South or Southwest Suburbs of Chicago, IL, including Dolton, South Holland, Chicago Heights and Ford Heights IL Action for Children is EEO/M/F/V/D employer.
