JOB TITLE:

Assistant Lecturer of Dance

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a non-tenure track one-year, full-time (9-month) faculty appointment at the Assistant Lecturer rank in Dance starting Fall Semester, 2024.

This individual will be responsible for teaching all levels of ballet technique through classical and contemporary approaches, providing students with a range of perspectives in the discipline. Additionally, they may contribute to other content in the dance area curriculum based on their areas of expertise. This individual will primarily serve the curriculum and students in the Bachelor of Arts – Dance Track and the Bachelor of Fine Arts – Dance Performance and Dance Science Concentrations with additional interaction and curriculum development across the Department of Theatre and Dance. This individual may also contribute choreographically to department productions, act as a rehearsal director for guest choreographers, and mentor student creative and research processes.

This individual should be curious and interested in the dance program's growth and committed to community building across performing arts disciplines. This might include experience with inclusive pedagogies; engagement with community-based social justice work; and demonstrated commitment to working closely with socio-economically diverse students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.

As a faculty member in the Dance Area, this individual will support and actively engage in recruitment efforts of prospective dance students; mentor dance students in their current studies and in career preparation; provide service to the department, college, university, and State of Wyoming; and support and participate in outreach and in-reach activities of the department, including the onsite hosting of the annual Wyoming State Thespian Festival and the 2025 American College Dance Association Mountain-Time Regional Conference. The successful candidate must be able to work productively and collaboratively with the Department of Theatre and Dance faculty, staff, and students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will teach in the ballet technique curriculum, mentor students, choreograph for department productions, and participate in student advisement, recruitment and outreach. Other teaching assignments will be based on department needs and individual experience.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's Degree in Dance, or related field
Experience: Demonstrated effective teaching at the undergraduate level
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated effective higher education teaching experience in ballet at the undergraduate level.
Teaching experience in at least one additional area of physical dance practice, dance kinesiology, or additional specialization.
Demonstrated strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to mentor and collaborate with a diverse range of students and to contribute to their training and development as professional artists and citizens of the world.
Artistic and/or scholarly activity in performing, choreography, production, digital dance, and/or research/publication.
