Position: Agrivoltaic Technician I (Ranch Hand)

Location:

RE De Soto Ranch, De Soto, GA with travel as needed throughout Southeast US

Overview:

The Agrivoltaics Technician I (Ranch Hand) is responsible for day-to-day regenerative land management and solar grazing operations (90%); and various other non-electric maintenance needs (10%) within a utility-scale solar energy project. The Ranch Hand works closely with the Ranch Manager to develop his/her skills with an emphasis on career advancement.

Main Responsibilities:

Training and on-site skills-development can be provided to help the qualified candidate perform the following:
  • Support broad regenerative land and livestock operations at RE De Soto Ranch with a focus on safety, animal welfare, time management, and operational success.
  • Perform all responsibilities related to implementation of sheep grazing management plans, including participation in fencing, feeding, herding, and related activities.
  • Assist in development of ranch facilities and infrastructure.
  • Support implementation of flock health and animal husbandry plans, including hands-on work related to vaccinating, deworming, performing wellness evaluations, and a multitude of veterinary-related tasks.
  • Safely operate various pieces of mechanical equipment, including but not limited to, trucks, tractors, mowers, and hand tools (training provided).
  • Adhere to an equipment preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn from the Ranch Manager's experience.
  • Recognize that hours can be irregular at times. This potentially includes arriving early, staying late, and working some weekend days.

Reporting: Reports to RE De Soto Ranch Manager

Qualifications - Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • BA/BS or training in Ranch Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, or related fields a plus

Qualifications - Background and Experience:
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Experience in livestock agriculture preferred
  • Ability to work some weekend shifts. As a commercial-scale livestock enterprise, the Ranch operates 7 days per week, year-round. While all efforts are made to minimize weekend work, the Ranch Hand will be expected to work some weekend shifts (primarily feeding working dogs and performing flock wellness checks).
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight off the main ranch on an occasional basis
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift 50lbs multiple times throughout the day
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Solar Industry experience a plus
