Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking highly motivated and energetic applicants for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position to join Hulbert Lab. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for overall scientific management of research projects. Our research focus is molecular genetics and epigenetics of Lung cancer and development of biomarkers for lung cancer prognosis and diagnosis. The experimental procedures include genetics, epigenetics, molecular biology, and cellular biology

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in specialized research with the PI.
  • Use proper scientific methods for publication and participating in scientific symposia.
  • Standardize and systematize comprehensive laboratory protocols while maintaining accurate records of the work performed.
  • Test, optimize and implement both new and existing methods/techniques.
  • Ability to follow established protocols to carry out laboratory procedures such as tissue culture, quantitative PCR, methylation specific PCR, SDS-Page gels, DNA extraction, bisulfite treatment, and nanoparticle-based methylation specific techniques.
  • Analyze data and information, evaluate and report findings to Assistant Professor/Principal Investigators, research staff, and national conferences. A successful candidate must be able to manage database utilizing software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, STATA, and SAP.
  • As directed by the Principal Investigator, design and develop research projects and grant proposals.
  • Biospecimen (blood, urine, and tissue) processing according to laboratory protocols.
  • Data collection, processing, and analysis. Prepare and contribute statistical data and pertinent information for papers, presentations, abstract creation, and grant applications.
  • Develop project updates and brief reports.
  • Preparation and implementation of general laboratory maintenance protocols (e.g., safety, training, waste management etc.)
  • Ensure that laboratory procedures comply with all safety requirements.
  • Supervise and train new graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Identifies and coordinates working relationships with peers at other research sites including and appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.
  • Comply with aid enforcement and biosafety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the PI and other lab members to prepare or perform experimental procedures in genetics, molecular biology, and cell culture.
  • Attends meetings and committees related to the research projects and represents the Hulbert lab as a liaison with other research specialists, research scientists and investigators nationally and internationally.
  • Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology or related field required.
  • Possesses and applies advanced comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are strongly preferred.
