Duties

This Supervisory Information Technology Specialist position is located in Enterprise Support (ES), Information Technology (IT), Application Development Division (ADD), Administration & Customer Relationship (ACR), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as consultant and SME to program offices, overseeing consulting/advisory service efforts toward ensuring software solutions are cost effective, respond to operational needs, leverage innovative approaches, and are compatible with existing IT systems and architecture. As a recognized expert, applies advanced knowledge of Information Technology (IT) technical principles toward ensuring organizational compliance with published policies and regulations, completion of deadlines, proper execution of functions, and overall efficiency of operations.
  • Conducts within the full-service support and service delivery analysis realm, customer relationship studies of mission, organizations, functions, work processes, methods procedures and other related criteria to clarify, appraise, refine, alter or improve present Customer Relationship Management applications and practices within our customer base.
  • Provides expert guidance and instruction, both internally and externally, to address diverse, complex Information Technology issues. Works with senior management to identify and jointly solve identified problems. Serves as a project manager on major IT projects. Projects involve a wide range of IT systems essential to TSA mission accomplishment. Responsibilities include determining appropriate products or services and defining project scope, requirements, and deliverables. Reviews, modifies, or provides input to project plans; implements project plans to meet objectives; coordinates and integrates project activities; and manages, leads, or administers project resources.
  • Exercises a full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities in directing work of subordinate staff. Coordinates and evaluates subordinates' work to assure balanced workload and timely responses to assigned actions. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Develops job descriptions and assigns work to subordinates based on priorities. Determines selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Hears and resolves complaints from assigned personnel and refers unresolved matters to higher authority. Takes disciplinary action when necessary. Defines, plans, and makes assignments, reviews work accomplishments and renders technical advice and guidance on unusual, controversial or complex problems.
Supervisory/Managerial duties includes serving as a first line supervisor for the organization. This includes but is not limited to: assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing and evaluating work and performance of subordinates; approving leave; coaching and developing employees; recommending corrective or disciplinary actions; assisting in budget planning and projecting short-term needs; managing projects within assigned resources; resolving routine problems that typically impact the objectives of the organizational unit; and when required, coordinating with customers outside the immediate organization.

Emergency Essential Position: This position is designated as an Emergency Essential (EE) position. This designation requires the employee to remain in a duty status if an emergency arises.
