The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated bench scientist with extensive hands-on experience in molecular biology and gene editing techniques. This individual will join the research team and play a key role in advancing our gene therapy research initiatives, contributing to the development of novel treatments for monogenic liver diseases. This is a full-time role that will be 100% on-site, with a majority of time spent on the research bench, and is based in Cambridge, MA. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Molecular Biology:
    • Design molecular biology reagents for genome editing (knock-in, knock-out) and downstream assays (NGS, qPCR and, ddPCR primers/probes)
    • Perform gel electrophoresis, Western blot, and DNA/RNA extraction from cells and tissues 
    • Conduct and troubleshoot polymerase chain reaction assays (PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR and ddPCR).
  • CRISPR genome editing
    • Conduct work flows that include CRISPR editing cells in tissue culture (electroporation, lipid transfection) and assessing the downstream performance of the editing by a variety of methods (NGS, ddPCR, reporter assays)
  • Cell Biology:
    • Cell culture: Cell line maintenance, transfection and electroporation, ideally with experience culturing primary hepatocytes
    • In vitro cell based assays, experience with flow cytometry preferred
  • Project Management:
    • Execute benchwork independently, demonstrating a high level of technical proficiency
    • Organize all research data, maintain electronic lab notebook
    • Manage research projects from conception to completion
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Train and supervise junior laboratory technicians, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a biomedical field with a focus on molecular biology/genetics/genome editing with up to 3 years of research experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry or post-doctoral experience in relevant field. 
  • Proven expertise in molecular biology techniques, including DNA cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, western blotting 
  • Strong background in genome editing/engineering and associated techniques/assays
  • Ability to work independently, manage projects, and troubleshoot technical challenges
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience with mouse models is preferred
