Position Purpose:

The Grant Specialist supports learning by strengthening the university’s reputation, financial support, and sustainability through federal, state, foundation, and corporate proposals. The duties of the Grant Specialist are closely aligned to the fundraising priorities of Aurora University including annual fundraising efforts, as well as fundraising for restricted and capital projects.

The Grant Specialist will work closely with the Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Grants to help advance the goals of the Office of Advancement. Will manage and support the entire grant life cycle from reviewing notice of funding opportunities to developing and submitting an application to providing progress, outcome, and financial reports.

Essential Job Functions:

Conducts research to identify potential funding opportunities at the government and local levels based on the university’s mission and funding initiatives. Manages proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and submission. Writes, revises, and edits drafts. Develops a portfolio of new, renewable, and upgradeable institutional donors. Maintains quality results by using and updating boilerplate library information as well as previously submitted proposals. Maintains and manages grant pipeline and calendar. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities. Expands personal network with other grant managers and prospect researchers. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.

Experience:

  • Experience with alumni or development functions in a higher education institution is preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking with excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills.
  • Excellent research and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform in a cross-functional team approach, a self-starter.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) applications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Ability to move about campus.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • The position is potentially hybrid with regular on-campus time required and time allowance to work off-campus after the initial orientation period.
