POSITION OVERVIEW

Works under minimum supervision and is assigned to complex tasks related to the Crusher and Concentrator processes. Position requires a strong level of technical competency. May supervise less experienced metallurgist or technicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Plans metallurgical improvement programs to enhance plant results, find new value chains, improve efficiency.

• Performs test work through technical laboratory analyses, process experimentation, mechanical evaluation, materials comparison, and statistical analysis, to improve existing concentrating process or to reduce costs.

• Analyze and Forecast concentrator performance by calculating reagent use, sampling process stream, checking mill circuits, inspecting process controls (DCS), and analyzing flotation performance.

• Prepare Technical Memorandums to report information from testing and evaluation to Concentrator personnel.

• Act in a field Supervisor, control room supervisor, or general supervisor position as needed.
Assist in training and mentoring junior metallurgical staff in gaining new skills and achieving their full potential.
• Perform Metallurgical Technician/Engineer tasks when the need arises.

• Help maintain the Crusher and Concentrator Split Engineering Systems, Distributed Control System, Particle Size Monitors and Mineral on Stream Analyzers systems at the concentrator. Continuous calibration of On-Stream Analyzers and Particle Size Monitors.

• Ensure that work practices within the concentrator, filter plant, and tailings area comply with company, local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards.

• Interact with workforce and Human Resources, Purchasing, Accounting, etc. to ensure compliance with established company policies.

• Coordinate maintenance activities.

• Cross-Train in Concentrator Maintenance Department on Planning, Scheduling, Stock Code Critical Spare Identification, Training and Document Control.

• Assist with the operations and maintenance planning and execution of scheduled plant outages.

• Revise, maintain and create standard operating procedures in conjunction with other stakeholders in the Document Control System.

• Assist with training of operations personnel, particularly in the flotation area, to ensure optimum recovery results.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advance knowledge of metallurgical testing, derivation of metallurgical index, plant balance, and sample preparation techniques. Expertise of chemical and laboratory best practices and procedures.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

• Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

• Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

• Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

• Advanced lab knowledge

• Basic mechanical and equipment knowledge.

• Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with employees, other supervisors and managers.

• Must have excellent computer skills.

• Ability to work in a team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum bachelor's degree from four (4) year university or college: Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field.

• Master's degree in Statistics, mathematics, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related degrees are preferred.

• Four to six years of experience working in a Concentrator production or laboratory environment.

• Experience working with and troubleshooting On Stream Analyzers and Particle size monitors.

• Candidates must possess a current and valid driver license.
