Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc. (TZMI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of “Connecting, Caring, Advocating for Wildlife, People, and Wild Places.” A dynamic group of passionate individuals brings the zoo to life each day, 365 days per year, caring for animals, greeting guests, educating the public and managing the facilities.  Each member of the team is integral to the success of the zoo as a key asset in the City of Tulsa and the Northeast Oklahoma region, delivering recreational opportunities, providing unplugged family time and conserving animal species for future generations. Position Summary: The Operations Technician is responsible for performing routine facilities maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; mechanical, etc.). Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned in keeping with the mission of Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc. (TZMI)
  • Responsible for the completion of all Operations work orders as assigned.
  • Performs minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry and excavation to maintain zoo exhibits, buildings, and grounds.
  • Performs general repair of buildings, exhibits, structures, equipment, etc.; performs scheduled preventative maintenance on same as directed.
  • Maintains records and documents of scheduled maintenance or other repairs as required.
  • Performs general fabrication to repair/fabricate animal caging, crates, exhibits; utilizes stick, MIG and TIG welding equipment.
  • Replaces broken windows; repair doors, door locks and closets; installs and repairs fencing/public barriers; installs and repairs concrete or asphalt surfaces, repairs mechanical equipment or vehicles, etc.
  • Inspect condition of roofs; clean roof gutters and drains.
  • Inspect and repair interior/exterior lighting; install and repair lamps, ballasts and covers.
  • Move and relocate office furniture, files, etc.; make adjustments to desks, chairs and files.
  • Analyzes work orders to determine materials required and methods to complete the task; prepares cost estimates for work orders.
  • Requisition supplies, material and equipment; monitor inventory; picks up supplies; load and unload supplies.
  • Maintains clean and clutter free shop and work area(s) involving general cleaning duties.
  • As needed, assists with set up/break down of special/private events including set up of tables, chairs, tents, stage, or other equipment.
  • Utilizes a wide array of hand and power tools and other equipment; maintain tools and equipment in good working order and in safe working condition. .
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as directed.

Qualifications Education and/or Experience No education requirement; at least two years related experience and/or training. Language Skills                                                     Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of TZMI. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.
