About the job
Our Chesapeake service center is adding a Mechanic to our team, and we’d like to hear from you. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to disassemble, inspect, repair, measure, and assemble products and subassemblies to bring them up to specification standards. We service high speed separators, decanters, pumps and valves for multiple industries.
As a part of the team, you will:
- Perform equipment receipt, uncrate, clean, strip and tear down units.
- Inspect, repair, service, test and package following the company’s policies, procedures, quality and Safety guidelines.
- Work from drawings, parts lists, blueprints, charts, tables and graphs to evaluate and assist in estimating repair costs, time and materials or parts needed to repair assemblies and subassemblies.
- Set up and operate test stands and related equipment as required.
- Set up and balance rotating equipment using approved balancing methods
- Record written test results
- Follow the quality plan per job to repair product
- Complete diagnostic checks and correct mechanical functions through adjustments, using various tools and approved repair methods.
- Move material inside shop as needed.
- Recognize and communicate the need for replenishment of supplies, tools, need repair parts and other facility needs to supervision in a timely manner.
- Keep work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized.
- Paint, pack, crate, and document shipment of units, parts and materials.
What you know
You have a High School Diploma or equivalent and prior experience in:
- Manual repair/workshop/manufacturing environments
- Operating fork lift trucks, hand pallet jacks and/or overhead cranes
Candidates who are successful in this role usually have:
- Understanding of complicated blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work instructions
- Experience with vibration analyzing/balancing equipment
- Ability to use micrometers and gauges in both English and Metric measures
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Ability to diagnose mechanical problems
- Demonstrated knowledge of welding
- Basic computer knowledge, to scan bar codes and clock in and out
Because we work in a manufacturing environment, we’d like you to know that it’s a typical shop environment. We have concrete floors, heavy machinery, and require the use of safety shoes and other PPE as needed. You’ll need to be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds as required and be willing to wear company supplied uniforms.
What’s in it for you?
We offer a challenging position in an open and friendly environment where we help each other to develop and create value. Your work will have a true impact on Alfa Laval’s future success. Our benefits-eligible associates enjoy healthcare, dental and vision plans, a robust wellness program, generous 401(k), paid holidays, paid time off benefits, and more. At Alfa Laval, we carefully consider a wide range of factors to determine your total compensation package.
