Summary/Objective The Head Groundskeeper will lead, supervise, and oversee all aspects of grounds management that are included in scope of work. The Head Groundskeeper manages the department budget and procurement process within established guidelines. This position will provide professional consultation or undertake lead role in athletic field/grounds renovation projects.Essential Functions1. Develop and implement schedules for the management of ABC Supply Stadium, this includes ornamental landscapes, lawn maintenance, and grounds maintenance that are associated with the entire property owned by the team2. Develop and implement annual business plan3. Field(s) set up and take down for baseball operations; ensure that fields meet all criteria and rules as set forth by the MLB, NCAA, team affiliates, and other clients that may solicit use of the field for events4. Maintain financial records of all funds and labor expenses for department5. Procurement of all materials required to administer a proven management program using approved vendors and within approved protocol6. Assist in development and implementation plans for emergency response due to inclement weather (i.e., blizzard, tornado or other natural disasters/catastrophes)7. Implement Standard Operating Procedures, follow all protocol and implement Quality Assurance Plan8. Prepare and maintain field quality for on-field activities scheduled throughout the year9. Implement training protocol for regulatory compliance, safety and technical needs10. Document and record all training11. Implement the use of an environmentally-sound pest management program that includes Integrated Pest Management; maintain impeccable records of all actions taken to manage identified pests/abatement or applications12. Ensure performance of all work in a safe manner for the employee, subordinates, students and others that use the facilities13. Maintain certifications, attend regional, state or national training14. Achieve both company and client's program integrity at high quality standards15. Performs all other duties as requested or directed to ensure the continued function of the organization
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities1. Good written (report writing) and oral communication (public speaking) skills2. Efficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and/or other compatible programs3. Ability to promote awareness to management program4. Ability to operate athletic field/grounds management related equipment, including the use of hand tools5. Experience managing staff is required6. Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude required7. Ability to work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives8. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities9. Ability to maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment10. Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership11. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays according to business needs
Education and ExperienceMinimum two years of experience in managing high profile athletic fields and a two-year degree in Turf Management, Agronomy/Horticulture-related field preferred, and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.Â
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The key physical requirements of this position include the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, operate heavy machinery, and lift up to 50 pounds.
