Controller (Construction) (MAUIALP)

Immediately seeking an experienced Controller for a full-time position with a full-service construction company 

The Controller will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day financial operations and will lead the annual financial review and tax preparation process with the company’s external accountants. The Controller will oversee and be responsible for the company’s month and year-end close processes, financial statement preparation, payroll, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivables, collections, fixed assets, job costing, GE taxes, and other areas related to the balance sheet and P&L.

Qualified candidates will have a strong background as a Controller with keen attention to detail, exceptional leadership, and communication skills.

Hours Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm Location Kahului, Maui Pay $140,000 to $180,000 a year Responsibilities
  • Manage all accounting operations and period end closing activities for the company ensuring timeliness and accuracy of related accounting processes through oversight reviews and internal controls.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency. Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reports, including income statement, balance sheets, cash flow, job level profit reports, financial metrics, and GE tax returns.
  • Ensure the company’s financial statements and practices are in compliance with banking covenants, statutory regulations and legislation, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations to ensure accurate project costing.
  • Maintain, develop and implement financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and work with external accountants to complete the annual review and tax returns, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • Work cross functionally to scale and automate business processes.
  • Assist CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial reporting activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience with 5 years as a Controller required.
  • Detail-oriented, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a financial team.
  • ERP knowledge and implementation experience, ability to learn new systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites - Word, Excel and MAC Suites required.
  • Offer of employment contingent upon passing a state/federal background check and pre-employment drug test.
