Washington, United States United Nations Foundation Full time
Position Overview
The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors securing America’s net-zero future by advancing state-led, high-impact climate action. The Alliance Secretariat helps its members accelerate climate action by providing a broad range of technical, analytical, policy, and capacity assistance and resources. The coalition has also built strong relationships with the federal administration to help create and implement an ambitious, durable national climate framework. For more information on the Alliance, please visit www.usclimatealliance.org.

The U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat is seeking an intern ready to contribute to its research, policy development, peer-to-peer learning, and coordination work. The intern will respond to specific project-level needs such as tracking policy progress and implementation, drafting policy briefing papers, and providing general coordination and program support. This role is an opportunity to gain a comprehensive and in-depth and understanding of the types of policies and actions U.S. states are advancing to drive down GHG emissions across the economy. The intern will be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance staff, consultants, external partners, and member states.

This is a paid opportunity from June 10, 2024, through September 3, 2024, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelor’s degree program; and $20 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program.

This position is remote. Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection is required.

Essential Functions
  • Agenda development and outreach support for Natural and Working Lands learning labs.
  • Working with team members to prepare materials that support major Alliance meetings and workshops.
  • Support the Alliance in IRA implementation by researching trends and challenges in state implementation and communicating it to partners.
  • Support in tracking federal funding opportunities and drafting weekly and quarterly newsletters to states.
  • Additional support tasks as needed.
Selection Criteria
  • Applicants can be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. We also welcome applications from individuals who have graduated within the last 8 months.
  • Strong research skills, ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in state climate policy and coalition building.
  • Experience, familiarity, or interest in federal climate policy.
  • Interest in innovative ways to communicate technically complex materials.
  • Be responsible, flexible, collaborative, hard‐working and committed to the mission of the U.S. Climate Alliance.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
