Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing library service to library users at Volunteer State Community College at the Cookeville Center. The Library Specialist will work independently under the direct supervision of the Upper Cumberland Director, and in close collaboration with the library staff at all campus locations. Primary duties are to welcome and assist students, faculty, and staff in the use of library resources by delivering outstanding, inclusive service. Additional duties are to provide guidance and assistance with general and specific information about the library and library resources. Other responsibilities include designing and delivering library instruction and workshops; contributing to the development and update of educational materials; outreach to the campus community and promoting library services and resources in a positive and engaging manner.

Job Duties: 

Welcome and assist students, faculty, and staff with reference questions and information needs, both in-person and remotely. Respond to incoming phone and email inquiries. Provide basic computer and technology support for library patrons, such as scanning, printing, and general eLearn needs. Coordinate with Instruction Librarian to conduct class presentations and workshops about library services, resources, and best research practices. Work with Coordinator of Library Services to circulate library materials and maintain inventory of items in electronic library services platform. Participate in collection development for the Livingston Center library. Actively promote library services to students and faculty by engaging in scheduled campus activities and contributing to digital educational materials such as research guides, website, videos, and library/campus social media accounts. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 6 months of customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in library and information studies (or its equivalent such as a Master’s degree in Information Science or a Master’s degree in Library Science, etc.).
Teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with library resources, including databases, print materials, and electronic resources such as ebooks, libguides, or websites.
Experience in a public services setting.
Strong interpersonal skills.
High proficiency with standard productivity software (especially Microsoft Office).
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Classroom teaching ability.

Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour
