Major Duties include but are not limited to:
The Domiciliary Mental Health (MH) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and leading the provision of competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. The domiciliary RN provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or MH conditions. They facilitate shift report, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups; use therapeutic communication techniques, practice de-escalation techniques, utilize recovery-oriented language, and provide oversight of the patient safe medication management program. The domiciliary RN actively participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, patient safety and environment of care rounds, and responds to psychiatric and medical care needs and emergencies as directed. The domiciliary RN reports safety concerns, and documents nursing assessments, risk screens, nursing plan of care, patient safety rounds, and environment of care rounds according to facility policy.
Engages patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination.
Knowledgeable of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks ensuring assigned delegated tasks are completed by team members.
Manages nursing care of patients, organizes, and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary.
Models the application of evidence-based practice/research with peers to improve patient care.
Models effective resource utilization through the delegation of cost-effective care delivery.
Recruits' peers to participate in unit level performance improvement activities.
Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes.
Applies advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes.
Leads staff to identify, analyze and address ethical issues that impact patients, caregivers and staff.
