Averages 8-10 hours per week Essential Duties:
  • Prepare and collect supplies and reagents to be used in their assigned labs.
  • Communicate with faculty about lab conditions that need faculty attention (ordering supplies, equipment maintenance, etc).
  • Maintain clean lab and prep spaces.
  • Wash and put away used glassware.
  • Assist faculty with lab maintenance related projects.
Exceptions: Student chemistry lab assistants will be working with a range of chemicals including acids/bases, oxidizing agents, flammable liquids, and solids. All necessary training, personal protective equipment, safety equipment, and hazardous waste disposal containers will be provided. General Comments:
  • Arrive to your shift on time and communicate schedule conflicts in advance (or maintain open communication about when you'll be completing your assigned tasks). Communicate with faculty to ensure each assigned teaching lab has the necessary supplies and reagents for weekly labs.
  • Maintain clean laboratory and lab preparation spaces (putting equipment and supplies away, cleaning glassware and plasticware, etc).
  • Be open to constructive feedback and work on areas of improvement. Participate in team building activities with fellow staff members and student employees.
  • Complete all assigned safety training courses and university requirements (submitting time cards by the deadline for each pay period).
