Overview

Under supervision of the Lead Director, Government Relations, and in cooperation with the Board of Directors of the VIrginia Alliance, the Director, Virginia Alliance is responsible for managing the Alliance, including development and implementation of the Alliance strategic plan; managing and monitoring Virginia Alliance grants; developing new sources of Virginia funding and Virginia wide projects and programs, managing fiscal oversight and administration; marketing the Alliance; and participating in the legislative process and related efforts and Virginia funding efforts in support of the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure the effective operation and delivery of programs within the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.

• Provide oversight of all Virginia funded programs in support of the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.

• Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and develop assigned staff according to BGCA's policies and procedures, consulting with the Lead Director and appropriate Human Resources staff as indicated.

• Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the Virginia Alliance's strategic plan, in collaboration with the BGCA Lead Director, Government Relations and the Alliance Board.

• Provide daily management of the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.

• Establish and monitor adherence to Alliance-related policies and procedures.

• Identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement and implement plans for improvement.

• Enhance, disseminate, collect and report all financial and program management requirements for funds received.

• Develop and implement a regular means of communication on key Alliance actions for local Clubs and Boards.

• Maintain day-to-day Alliance business processes to include financial reporting, dues collection and reporting, distribution of funds, and by-law requirements etc.

• Ensure active participation by Alliance board members and support effective Board roles and functioning. Facilitate Board functions, including Board development activities, Board and committee meetings, trainings/retreats and communications to ensure that Board Members are provided with the information and support necessary to fulfill their objectives.

• Develop, implement and monitor the Alliance's annual budget.

• Implement administrative and operational systems to support effective operations.

• Identify, develop and implement new sources of Virginia funding in collaboration with the Alliance Board, local Clubs and Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with key Virginia Government Officials.

• Work with the Alliance Board and local Clubs to develop Virginia wide projects and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities continued:

• Provide support and appropriate input to the Board of Directors through board meetings and regular communication.

• Participate and assist in program development, policy determination and management decisions of the Virginia Alliance.

• Work closely with the Senior Director, Government Relations, BGCA and other key national staff to invigorate and strengthen the government relations activities taking place at the Virginia level.

• Develop and implement a "grass roots" education and awareness campaign for key Virginia officials.

• Monitor, interpret, and disseminate information (through research and personal contact) on policies and actions of Virginia government that impact local Boys & Girls Clubs.

• Demonstrate BGCA mission driven I-CARE values, and integrate these beliefs into our environment and ways of work

• Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Employee Handbook , Ethics Policy and elsewhere.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree or education/experience equivalency.
  • Minimum of five to seven years' experience in the management, administration, and operation of a Boys & Girls Club (or similar organization).

SKILLS

Must possess a strong understanding of the inner-workings of a local Boys & Girls Club or similar organization, and the importance of the relationship between a board and its staff; working understanding of legislative activity, Virginia government funding, and the potential of both to strengthen local Boys & Girls Clubs or a related youth development program; demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity; demonstrated competence in time management and prioritization, issue analysis, board support, financial and grant management, and handling of multiple tasks. Ability to supervise and manage staff; demonstrated strong interpersonal and negotiation skills; demonstrated computer literacy using word processing, databases, spreadsheets and presentation software; demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail and task oriented; and a team player with demonstrated collaboration skills.
