May be for Leeward CC day, evening, or weekend offerings; on- and off-campus such as Leeward CC - Waianae Moku and local area high schools (pending background clearance) or other satellite campuses.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, teach a range of freshman and sophomore-level college courses such as civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering, and related Integrated Industrial Technology (IIT) coursework as assigned.
Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students, assisting in campus-related student activities, participating in faculty/administrative committees, community service, in-service training, maintaining an approved program of professional self-improvement, collecting data and preparing reports, preparing/adapting/revising course objectives, independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments, initiate and contribute to engineering course and program review, assessment, student learning outcomes (SLO) review and assessment and course articulation including transfer.
May include instructional assignments involving distance education.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering. Minimum qualifications must be from a regionally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
Three years of professional engineering experience or teaching experience at the community college level or higher.
Successful college-level teaching experience substantiated by student evaluations, peer evaluations, and/or other references.
Understanding of the needs of community college students.
Academic background and teaching experience especially with innovative teaching methods and technologies.
Ability to develop and teach courses such as Engineering Mechanics (Statics and Dynamics), Computer Programming in Python, Linear Circuits, Digital Logic Design, Computer-Aided Design, Mechatronics.
Ability to develop and teach Integrated Industrial Tech (IIT) courses, such as Safety, Health, and Environment; Electro-hydraulics and Pneumatics, Mechanical Drive Systems, Rapid Prototyping, Principles of Process Quality, AC/DC Circuits, Digital and Analog Circuits, Programmable Logic Control, Process Control and Instrumentation, Motor and Motion Control, Distributed Control Systems, and/or Supervisory Control & Data Administration.
Knowledge of proper practices regarding lab equipment storage and use.
Knowledge of proper safety protocols and laboratory procedures.
Demonstrated commitment to professional self-development.
Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including students with disabilities and students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated ability to work with students on an individual/informal basis.
