Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Identifies emergency situations, reports and initiates effective action immediately. Performs CPR in accordance with the established medical center policy and nursing service policies. Assists in Code Blues by obtaining supplies and following the direction of the nursing supervisor or charge nurse.
Complies with Nursing Service policy/procedure on administering medications. Administers medications as ordered. Observes for desired and untoward effects.
Utilizes nursing care procedures when providing patient care. Consistently observes and follows nursing care procedures in providing patient care.
Utilizes the concepts and the guidelines of sterile technique. Strictly adheres to guidelines for hand washing. Always utilizes sterile technique when warranted for any procedure. Follows infection control policies/procedures and consistently utilizes universal precautions.
Maintains intravenous solutions. Changes premixed intravenous solutions and peripheral tubing as directed by the team leader/charge nurse. Administers premixed antibiotic therapy as ordered.
Meets the patient's needs for privacy. Ensures that patients are appropriately covered by clothing or bedding. Always closes the patient's door, curtains, and blinds to ensure privacy when providing direct patient care. Follows the medical center policy for release of information and respects patient confidentiality.
Identifies patients needing information/education about their plan of care.
Identifies patient/family emotional needs. Provides emotional supports and considers the needs of the patient, family, and/or significant others. Anticipates patient needs in the face of known stressors such as death, dying, surgery, and awaiting diagnostic test results. Promotes positive interpersonal relationship with patient, staff, family member/or significant others.
Maintains personal safety.
Identifies significant changes in the patient's physical and mental status. Consistently identifies significant changes in patient's status and reports to the team lead/provider. Accurately observes, measures, and reports vital signs and other parameters that indicate patient's psychological status.
Identifies the further action by provider based on findings during patient interview.
Routinely completes required clinical reminders, vital signs, weight and height during check-in process. Routinely orients new patients to the team. Functions as liaison between patient and the extend care team. Ensures that patient's questions/concerns related to team orientation are satisfied.
Reports accurate data to the team leader/charge nurse. Documents patient status or change of status, medications, and treatments in CPRS. Documents outcomes of treatment as appropriate. Consistently reports to the team leader/charge nurse and documents all pertinent patient information in a timely manner.
Pertinent data is documented on appropriate documentation forms, templates, and systems.
Records all medications and procedures provided and records patient responses to these interventions.

: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).


Paid Time Off:
37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.


Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
