The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and the National Cancer Institute at Frederick provide comprehensive professional EHS services to employees working in general offices, industrial shops, experimental research laboratories, and animal care environments. Work is performed within the offices of the EHS Directorate and on multiple campuses in various customer locations.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform Safety and Industrial Hygiene compliance tasks including regular surveys, inspections, and audits of work areas to assess safe working conditions and work practices, report results, and guide corrective actions. Perform risk assessments of processes and work activities from varied work areas/disciplines, exposures, and environmental concerns. Manage and administer training and employee instruction on safety and health topics. Assist with the implementation of Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs (e.g., Fall Protection, Ladders, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Powered Industrial Trucks, Asbestos, Hearing Conservation, etc.). Occasionally support hazardous spill cleanup monitoring, assists in hazard decontamination, and provide assistance and other services/support to other EHS programs as needed. Operate and maintain specialized equipment and instrumentation. Maintain effective communications (verbal and written) with a broad range of employees. Use relevant software and systems to complete duties and maintain records (Cority, SIIMS).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.Ability to independently coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks.Proficient with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.Familiarity with data entry and use of a variety of databases.Attention to detail.Ability to provide strong customer service in a collegial manner.Ability to maintain confidence pertaining to occupational exposure, incident, medical and similar data.Familiarity with safety regulations and standards including but not limited to OSHA, COMAR, ANSI, NFPA.As determined by the program requirements, this position will be designated as an Occasional Driver and will be responsible for complying with the Leidos Biomedical Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy.Must possess a valid drivers license and clean driving record.This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, bend, stoop and to go into confined spaces.Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

JOB HAZARDS

This position is subject to atmospheric conditions that would require the usage of a respirator, requiring a medical clearance.This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to animal(s) and/or animal material(s).This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations.This position may require continuous or intermittent exposure to and exertion in environmental conditions such as working outdoors, temperature extremes, humidity extremes. etc. as part of the job.This position may require the use of ladders and/or fall protection systems as part of the job.
