JOB SUMMARY: Provides guide services to visitors. Work involves giving talks, interpreting natural and historic features, answering questions, guiding tours, and providing miscellaneous services to visitors. Temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year but may be extended each year without further competition, if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. Interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment. MAJOR DUTIES: The Internship Program, as a component of Pathways, is for current students and individuals accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational program. The Internship Program provides students enrolled in a variety of educational environments (high schools, colleges, trade schools and other qualifying educational institutions) with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. This position is established to provide a meaningful employment opportunity in the Park Guide occupation. The employment opportunity may involve specific administrative task/work assignments and a variety of activities and assignments, and working with technical, administrative and professional staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience. Presents a variety of formal and informal interpretive programs including orientation talks, environmental education programs, conducted walks, demonstrations and campfire programs to small groups (up to 20 people).Informs visitors about park facilities and resources.Provides assistance in connection with one-time or annual celebrations related to the programs and themes of the park and assist in the operations of special events.Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with interpretive material, e.g., projectors, microphones, and video equipment.Performs assignments in visitor centers such as answering basic and typical questions about the park and its facilities.Informs visitors about park facilities and resources through roving interpretation.Uses interpretive props and other materials needed for programs.Operates Park radio, phone, and computer to communicate with park staff and visitors.
