Role Overview:

This role is the manager of the Corridor Development Office at the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Corridor Development Office is responsible for evaluating the State and Interstate Roadway Network related to operational, capacity, mobility, connectivity, and accessibility needs with a primary focus on the Interstate system and higher-volume arterial routes. The team evaluates identified areas of need in a preliminary engineering process that includes data collection, purpose & need definition, operational analysis, alternative development, cost estimation, and recommendations on the next steps that are presented in an Alternative Evaluation Report. Proposed projects advance into INDOT's asset management annual call for projects process, where they are scored, ranked, vetted, and potentially recommended for development and construction funding, subject to funding constraints. The Corridor Development Office also has a significant role in major project alternative development and guidance of traffic elements in corridor and new alignment roadway studies pertaining specifically to establishing and defensible purpose and need.

As the Traffic Mobility Engineer Mgr, you will lead the Corridor Development Office, within the Traffic Engineering Division, in the execution of duties related to establishing and managing the Traffic Mobility Capital Program, major project creation including analysis and alternative development, customer service and subject matter expertise related to technical inquiries and requests for assistance. This role is critical to setting the direction of traffic analysis and reviews statewide, reviewing corridor and planning studies, and upholding reasonability and feasibility related to establishing purpose and need for capital investment. To be successful in this role you should understand traffic analysis and policy, management of the traffic mobility asset program, and project management.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at$93,002.00but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

Location:

This position is located in INDOT's Central Office, IndianapolisTraffic Engineering.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Participate in the development of goals for the division's strategic plan, assists in preparing division budgets, and lead an engineering team.
  • Monitor programs to ensure policy and best practices are actively deployed.
  • The Highway Engineer Supervisor assures accurate and timely updating of management information systems as they relate to the delivery of the program, and ensures their business rules, policies, and procedures are implemented and maintained as standard business practice in their designated work environments.

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
  • Must have a Professional Engineer license in Indiana.
  • Must have an Indiana driver's license.
  • Must be able to read and interpret various contracts, plans, laws, administrative rules, and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic knowledge of the agency.
  • Must be able to read and interpret specifications, standards, and policies and apply them to operations.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and establish credibility.
  • Ability to work with internal and external customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
