CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in McPherson, Kansas. We are looking for a Refinery Inspector to be responsible for the development and execution of stationary equipment inspection plans working within the established inspection budget. This includes maintaining the CHS McPherson Refinery inspection program and participating in the continuous development of the program to ensure the mechanical integrity of pressure-containing equipment and piping in the facility.  The Refinery Inspector is responsible for the development of inspection plans and schedules, performing inspections, generating, reviewing, and approving detailed inspection reports and inspection work repair plans, and working with the Inspection Data Management System (IDMS) database.  Supervision of contract inspection personnel is also performed routinely.  Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks, are necessary.Responsibilities

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations.  Identify and communicate workplace hazards.  Correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions in the workplace.Maintain a regularly executed inspection program using Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS) and Risk Based Inspection (RBI) analysis to identify frequency, extent, corrosion rates, and remaining life of piping and equipment.Establish inspection scope and maintain inspection records in electronic and hard copy format for each piece of equipment and pipe circuits in assigned units.Make recommendations concerning the purchase of needed inspection equipment.Maintain PMI program on alloy materials to ensure proper material selection and field application.Perform quality analysis for shop-fabricated equipment and field-installed new construction projects as directed.Approve hydrostatic, pneumatic, and in-service testing of vessels, piping, and tanks for both new construction and post-repairs.Update and maintain inspection documentation, piping isometrics, and equipment drawings associated with Management of Change (MOC) documents.Coordinate with unit Mechanical and Process Engineers, Contractors, Maintenance, and Operations personnel as required on inspection code requirements, condition of equipment, recommendations on repairs, and quality of workmanship.Support the development and evergreening effort associated with Integrity Operating Windows (IOW’s).Monitor IOW dashboard for IOW exceedances and consult with Engineering to determine appropriate inspection response.  Add and/or update inspection events in the IDMS as appropriate to respond.Maintain an understanding of existing inspection techniques and research new methods to continuously improve CHS’s inspection program.Participate in and/or lead Special Inspection Initiative Projects as they develop.Perform internal, external, and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) inspections of pressure vessels, towers, heat exchangers, piping, tanks, heaters, and other equipment to determine the condition of the refinery assets.Perform on-stream inspection of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, and other equipment.Coordinate outside inspection services and perform inspections during turnarounds.Perform shop inspection of new equipment as necessary.Perform or direct failure analysis/study on projects as required.Travel up to 5% (shop visits, conferences, training, etc.)Perform other duties as requested (Turnaround planning, etc.).Minimum Qualifications (required) High School diploma or GED4+ years of experience in Oil Refinery Production, Operations, and/or Maintenance and/or Maintenance InspectionAPI 510 & 570 inspection certificationsAdditional Qualifications 8+ years of relevant experience in oil & gas or related industryCollege degreeAdditional API certificationsPrevious NDE certifications or training in one or more methods, such as MT, PT, UT, RT, or ETAbility to use IDMS database.Ability to grade inspection events based on RBI Inspection Effectiveness tables in API 581Knowledge of corrosion and damage mechanisms relevant to the refining industryExtensive experience with RBI methodologyExperience working with PCMS.Experience working with above-ground storage tank inspections, repairs, and construction.Experience working in an ASME shop.AWS CWI certificationAbility to multitask and maintain constantly changing priorities.Excellent organizational skillsComputer skills (software to include Microsoft Office suite, various databases, and other position-specific applications)Ability to work a changing schedule which may include additional hours, weekends, and holidays, based on plant needs.Experience working turnarounds as an inspector, lead inspector, or supervisor.Physical Requirements Ability to wear all job-required PPE.Ability to work on elevated equipment and in confined spaces.Ability to bend, crawl, and climb as needed to complete hands-on inspection tasks.Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
