Summary

This position is located at the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana.

Duties

Incumbent repairs and maintains physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools. Repairs or replaces electrical fixtures, switches, and installs wiring. Duties include repair and maintenance of cemetery buildings, structures, operating systems, electrical, plumbing, water, sewage, sidewalks and roads.

Plasters and performs a variety of masonry repairs. Incumbent performs a wide variety of carpentry tasks (i.e., builds headstone carts, wooden tampers, wooden shelves, signs). The Incumbent is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying primer and finish coats of paint. Incumbent paints interior and exterior of buildings and equipment using brush, roller or spray gun on a variety of surfaces. Incumbent paints other items such as iron fences, valve covers, fire hydrants. Incumbent works with gloss, semi-gloss, and special paints, enamels, varnishes, stains, lacquers and shellacs.

Repairs irrigation system (repair/replace valves, wiring, water mains-3" to 12", components of irrigation master valves, irrigation flow sensors). Incumbent is required to perform routine preventive maintenance on irrigation pumps and backwash system. Performs diagnostics and operational/maintenance checks on irrigation satellite controllers. Routinely installs irrigation system additions in response to expansions or changes in landscaping. Performs a variety of plumbing tasks such as: repair or replacement of toilets, urinals, faucets, unplug toilets/sinks.

Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
