Engineers at Riot master their craft by building, launching, and operating games that delight players all over the world. As a Data Engineer on the Player Journey (PJ) team, you will help build tititle-specific systems to balance and improve the player experience and unch new data-empowered products. As well as help to build processes to meet the data needs of multiple titles.

As a Data Engineer (Data) on the PJ team, you will have the chance to collaborate with engineers, analysts and data scientists. You will also contribute to robust and reliable data solutions and platforms that extract value from data throughout the game development lifecycle. You'll use your expertise with large-scale data systems to help us build efficient solutions. You will report directly to the Manager for Fandom & Experience's Player Journey team.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the Team of Teams/Initiative is adhering to data engineering excellence which includes: code maintainability, data architecture, data and service quality, monitoring, operational excellence, and documentation
  • Mentor and coach to lift the expertise of the cross-discipline team of scientists, data engineers and analytics engineers you will oversee or interact with
  • Constantly innovate to improve player experience by unlocking player impacts during outages, provide insights and value to improve tech spend across game teams & vertical customers
  • Work with other engineers, data science experts
  • Handle a range of engineering problems related to data capabilities in the backend services
  • Design sustainable, reusable data marts and telemetry that can be applied to all new games
  • Work with data scientists and analysts who will use your data marts to help with decisions or build services
  • Safeguard player data
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience as a data / software engineer (Internships, part-time developer, and post-bachelor degrees count as relevant experience )
  • Experience developing mission-critical data systems that have a significant impact on a game from scratch, including gathering requirements and designing scalable, production-ready architecture
  • Fully immersed expertise in Python, PySpark, SQL, and tools such as Airflow and DBT.
  • Proficient in Cloud Infrastructure (AWS / GCP) and Databricks
  • Displays the highest level of craft mastery within the Team of Teams/Initiative of the industry-standard tools, frameworks, and practices for their language(s) of choice in the space of data system, data warehouse, and data infrastructure
  • Experience leveling up, mentoring more junior engineers (Associate DE, DE, DE II)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • Software development across multiple languages ( Python preferred, Java, Scala)
  • Familiarity with SQL, relational databases
  • Experience in Business Analytics or any data related area.
  • Experience with data processing (e.g. Spark, BigQuery etc)
  • Worked with scheduling and orchestration softwares (Airflow)
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services, querying and working with data in multiple AWS services.
  • Work with software engineers to create test strategies, plans and cases that provide acceptable coverage for a given data pipeline.
