About the Role

 

The DG Customs Specialist will oversee the processing/shipping of outbound dangerous goods and ensure they comply with customs regulations by tracking and documenting shipments, communicating with customer and broker agents, categorizing shipments by product coding system, and reviewing coordinating documentation for accuracy.

 

How you will contribute

  • Coordinate paperwork and documentation necessary to comply with tariff and customs regulations.
  • Maintain and update electronic files and shipping logs.
  • Support for the evaluation and identification of types of packaging that comply with regulatory requirements and that minimize the risk of shipping the company’s hazardous materials.
  • To ensure safe and legal handling of dangerous goods, including verifying all paperwork is accurate, complete, and timely, with proper distribution to all necessary parties
  • Communicate with external customers about the handling of customs procedures and related issues.
  • Draft, apply, and supervise export documents via the appropriate organizations written and electronically, when assigned.
  • Advise the internal operational departments and the customs management framework on customs-specific information as requested.
  • Support in activities relating to hazardous materials transportation compliance by implementing procedures and policies, and auditing, to reduce risk and liability while ensuring hazardous materials are transported in compliance with all domestic and international transportation regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Your Key Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of relevant experience and practical knowledge in international compliance/dangerous goods regulations.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous materials transportation regulations, IMDG, IATA, and CFR 49
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, while maintaining a pro-active approach
  • Strong organizational skills, including being thorough and detail-oriented, while maintaining a high degree of ethical integrity.
  • Able to problem solve in stressful situations.
  • Customer-oriented, quality-conscious, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with International Dangerous Goods requirements.
