Station Clerk A

Duties

Under directive supervision, using a typewriter or personal computer, types letters, memos, reports, statements, purchase orders and other technical and non-technical typing; logs, files and proof-reads department work papers; takes minutes of meetings and performs such duties as:

  • Logging, stamping, proof-reading and routing department work papers;
  • Making proper distribution and filing departmental records in accordance with the established procedures of the department;
  • Reviewing Station documents such as purchase orders, procedures, drawings and receiving reports to determine if the information is correct and, if applicable, all appropriate individuals have received, read and properly signed off;
  • Establishing, and/or maintaining files, cross indexes and simple registers;
  • Performing clerical duties such as: closing and ruling accounts, adding columns of figures, matching receiving reports and logs to the work in progress and determining the proper file and distribution method to be used;
  • Using a typewriter or personal computer, generate reports, memos, letters, purchase orders and other technical and non-technical typing as required;
  • Coordinating the work with other departments to insure the timely completion of the work;
  • Answering the telephone, relaying messages and answering routing inquiries regarding the work;
  • Receiving, sorting and distributing mail;
  • Performing the duties of Station Clerk B;
  • Instructing and training employees in the work;
  • Assisting employees of higher classification; and performing similar or less skilled work.

Qualifications

Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications; must meet all the qualifications of Station Clerk B and in addition:

  • Must have six (6) months experience as Station Clerk B or the equivalent;
  • Must have demonstrated ability in the performance of the duties of Station Clerk B;
  • Must be familiar with the department's work practices and procedures;
  • Must be familiar with the Station Procedures;
  • Must be able to:
  • Type on standard typewriter at a minimum of 275 strokes per minute from typed or printed copy for five (5) minute period; five (5) errors or less acceptable; or Using a personal computer, pass a basic data entry test which is 65 net keystrokes per minute (NKPM) with a 90% accuracy;
  • Change ribbon on typewriter;
  • Set tabular and margin stops;
  • Understand and execute written or verbal typing instructions;
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with employees of other departments with whom the work must be coordinated; and
  • Must demonstrate ability to treat Company business as confidential.
