Summary

This position serves as the Public Affairs Specialist for the Massachusettes State Office, USDA, Rural Development (RD). The purpose of this position is to develop and administer a statewide public information program designed to maximize public exposure and affirm the mission and objectives of RD.



Duties
  • Conducts the public affairs program for the State, with responsibility for planning, developing, and communicating RD programs, policies, and activities to the State's publics.
  • Designs, convenes, and conducts public involvement programs and meetings to gather information on community needs, stakeholder viewpoints and local community development activities and to provide in depth information on RD programs.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with representatives of the print and broadcast media, state legislative delegations, and state and local governments to ensure broad dissemination of information about RD programs and services.
  • Ensures State employees are involved in decision making activities; uses various tools and techniques to improve employee productivity and morale; identifies and addresses internal communication training needs.
  • Maintains State internet website.
