Under administrative direction, develops, implements, coordinates, promotes, and evaluates safety and risk management programs encompassing environmental and occupational health, safety, hazardous materials management, and emergency preparedness services and activities. Advises management on safety related issues and develops/coordinates environmental and safety policies and procedures. Promote a proactive safety and environmental culture. Responsible for managing the activities of custodians within General Affairs department.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compliance with GCA / GCC policies and procedures. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times.Apply continual improvement concepts to EHS excellence. Uses EHS indicators to drive long term improvement goals.Ensures compliance with all state, federal and local governmental EHS regulations. This includes written programs, record keeping, reports, logs, inspections, monitoring, and testing, training and medical surveillance per guidelines. Maintain compliance with air and water permits. Perform required inspections and audits per permit requirements.Supports/Leads ISO 14001 certification program and maintains ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Business Continuity Management System certifications.Directs, develops and delivers environmental safety and health training programs to ensure employee’s knowledge, understanding and adherence to safety and environmental regulations pertaining to the operation of the facility.Executes actions to reduce and sustain EHS risk assessment score(s).Manages EHS management programs including cost control/reduction and accident prevention/reduction, and business continuity.Tracks incidents and produces reports/analytics.Develops, implements and coordinates all Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic activitiesManages non-hazardous, hazardous, and universal waste disposal and minimization activity.Develops, implements, and coordinates all Fire Prevention/Protection programs coordinating with FM Global. This includes all required training, recordkeeping, monitoring and reporting programs and results.Track, approve, and maintain chemical inventories for global harmonization / haz-com and Material Safety Data Sheet online system updates and Tier 1 reporting.Ensures all EHS issues identified during internal/external audits and Safety Committee audits are resolved.Facilitate and lead Plant Safety and sub-team committees. This includes providing support with incident investigations and 5-Why Tree/Root Cause Analysis and application of corrective action.Manages custodian personnel responsible for keeping the facility, including office and plant areas clean and disinfected.Communicate expectations, provide direction, performance feedback and recognition to associates. Discipline associates where necessary.Maintain positive work environment providing communication, recognition and fair application of policies and practices.Coordinate the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipmentCoordinates with site Human Resources Manager in the administration of Worker’s Compensation and Early Return to Work Program.Support HR with on-boarding activities and coordinate monthly/quarterly/yearly training for related associates.Participate in EHS strategic planning – lead execution of elements of the EHS strategic plan.Identify and deliver against business value drivers of internal stakeholders.Demonstrate tangible benefits to business through continuous improvement of EHS.Keeps abreast of any changes to law and regulations that impact the organizationMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety or related field or equivalent work experience5+ years’ experience as an EHS manager leading high performance site level EH&S program required.1-3 years supervisory experienceExperience in managing/handling compliance issues, permitting, manufacturing operations, OSHA/EPA programs, regulatory reviews, permit preparation, reporting and record keeping.Knowledge of ISO 14001 StandardsCPR/First Aid TrainingNational Safety Council TrainingA thorough understanding of lean manufacturing principles and leadership applicationsAbility to work independently and to prioritize tasks to ensure objectives and timelines are metEnsure that quality, quantity, customer satisfaction, and financial commitments are metPerform metrics reporting and data analysis tasks to identify issues and opportunities for process improvementMust demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in addition to analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesStrong leadership, presentation, training, and organizational skills.Must be adaptable and flexible in their thought processMust be well organized, detail oriented and capable of handling a variety of issues and assignmentsAbility to multi-task and handle priorities in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work weekends, off-shifts, and respond to emergencies as needed.Microsoft Office skills to include the ability to create and generate spreadsheet, presentations, reports, graphs, and other intermediate functionsWORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbent typically works in an office environment but due to nature of duties will also work in a manufacturing environment as needed to perform job function. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be subjected to unusual environmental conditions such as moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and workspace restrictions. The noise level while in the manufacturing work environment is moderate.
Employees will be required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include eye and hearing protection, protective smock, steel toe shoes, and gloves. Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas.
