Summary

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.  This position is located in the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR).  OFMR provides the full range of building services and support services throughout the Smithsonian campus.



Duties

The Materials Handler Supervisor serves as a working First Line Supervisor within the Metro Support Branch, exercising supervisory responsibility over subordinate employees and the work operations.

In this position, you will:

  • Review and approve routine work assignments by the material handler leader.
  • In collaboration with the Facility Manager, plan and supervise the day-to-day warehouse operations, shipping and receiving office, ensure schedules and priorities are met, oversee work in progress, and make adjustments due to changing circumstances.
  • Maintain employee motivation and morale.
  • Oversee the management of the Shipping/Receiving Office, ensuring performance of duties.
  • Act as selection official in hiring process following EEO policies and make recommendations on performance awards, levels of competence and promotions.
  • Manage the Hazardous Waste Program
