The Marine Transportation Supervisor:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vessels to transport GLS employees and equipment along the St Lawrence River between Montreal and Lake Ontario, and across the Great Lakes as needed.
Ensures all employees are treated fairly and equitably in all work-related matters, and that selections for new appointments, promotions, training, or other opportunities are based only on job related factors.
Administers the navigational aids program to include commissioning and decommissioning of buoys and navigation lights at the opening and closing of each navigation season, installing horizontal ranges, and ensuring that aids are placed in accordance with requirements utilizing DGPS technology.
Responsible for ice breaking activities in the U.S. portion of the Seaway, Sector II to encompass an area below Snell Lock, the intermediate pool and above Eisenhower Lock. This activity is mandated to assist with the opening of the shipping season and during the closing period, as required.
Provides strong leadership and support to the Safety Program and is continually watchful for unsafe conditions or practices Corporation-wide. Immediately consults with the Occupational Safety and Health Manager, or takes corrective action on own initiative, when unsafe conditions or practices are observed.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the appropriate Coast Guard Licenses coupled with experience operating a Z-drive tug on inland or coastal waterways and/or the Great Lakes.
